Jonzun Crew – ‘Pack Jam’

tumblr_mm8u7xy5fx1rwadubo1_500

Continuing the early eghties tip, we have The Jonzun Crew and ‘Pack Jam.’ Unlike most groups of that era they said ‘fuck sequencers’ and played all their drums and synths live. Either way this is a monster.

Check the video on the Facebook page.

Sacré Cool, Young Montana & Chemise.

This samples a song by Chemise that I have had my eye on for a while. Both are well worth a listen. The video was also a nice surprise. Exemplary work from Young Montana (and Chemise).

Money$ Too Tight

Watching T.V on a Saturday night and a documentary about Simply Red came on. Reminded me of this. It’s the original. Simply Red took this three years later and made it worse.

Before The Internet

Robert Palmer was a prevalent sound in my childhood due to this flyboy above (my old man.) Below I’ve posted 2 videos the first being Palmer’s cover of ‘You’re In My System’ and the second, the original by ‘The System.’ I cant decide which I prefer. I can’t embed the Robert Palmer video just the audio. Make sure you watch the video here.

Playing Hard To Get – Technical Difficulties

My file hosting network have docked my bandwidth despite upgrading to a pro account last night so streaming the tracks is unavailable. So in the meantime please take a moment to listen to Vernon Burch’s Playing Hard To Get.

Greg Wilson

Greg Wilson is the godfather of the genre. He pioneered British Electrofunk and the notion of the re-edit and was the first to appear on British TV mixing live. Check out Jools Holland’s fresh style. The video is featured below as well as a mix.

Make sure you pay a visit to Greg Wilson’s site electrofunkroots. Here you can download more of his mixes, read interviews and biography etc.

‘Champagne’

This is the first post. Just going to keep it simple. The woman above is Evelyn King. Her voice is good. I picked this up in the Madhatters second hand shop in Tollcross (Edinburgh). It was sitting in a box of 45s outside the shop fully exposed to the elements. Hence the recording isn’t perfect. You can download by right clicking, save as on the link below or just stream it. Enjoy (sorry for the crackles in the recording)
