I will be bringing my flavour to Sneaky Pete’s ‘Soul Jam Hot‘ tomorrow night (January 1st). No one really cares how hung over you are or how mental your mate mike was. Just get down there. Have a Happy New Year in the mean time.
Today is the third friday of June, and therefore the third instalment of DAMN HOT (Soul Jam Hot’s sister night) in the Speakeasy, Cab Vol.
When: Friday 17th June, 11pm – 3am
Where: The Speakeasy, Cabaret Voltaire
Who: ASTROBOY (Four Corners, Departure Lounge) ft. LIVE PERCUSSIONIST, The Players Association

Peoples Potential Unlimited are purveyors of old and rare boogie tracks plus they make these vintage video tapes, the aesthetic is perfect. They also have an online record shop called EARCAVE. Get them checked.
Catch them in the mix and interview at Phonica Blog.
This samples a song by Chemise that I have had my eye on for a while. Both are well worth a listen. The video was also a nice surprise. Exemplary work from Young Montana (and Chemise).
If you like edits then you’ll like this. It’s a mix of edits by Tiger and Woods that you can find on Resident Advisor. Track 2 on this is amazing. Don’t know what it is. There will be more vinyl rips soon. We had a flood on boxing day so I had to move all my records and dismantle the decks or else the ceiling would have got them. Anyway heres the mix. (Thanks to Duncan Bain for pointing this one out to me)
It’s getting dark at 4 o’clock in Scotland at the moment. Sometimes a track can completely transport you. I’d totally forgotten about this track. Haven’t listened to it for about 2 years. Take minute to listen to L.A Nights by Yasuko Agawa and imagine you are in the photo above…smooth.
Greg Wilson is the godfather of the genre. He pioneered British Electrofunk and the notion of the re-edit and was the first to appear on British TV mixing live. Check out Jools Holland’s fresh style. The video is featured below as well as a mix.
Make sure you pay a visit to Greg Wilson’s site electrofunkroots. Here you can download more of his mixes, read interviews and biography etc.
